| I don't think it does. Afterall anyone can chat with any number of guys or girls and you would never know. It can be difficult to know when someone is being sincere online. |

Hi.
You don't think that Online dating etiquette exists?
Are you speaking from experience? Surely there must be a certain amount of "etiquette" to even consider chatting to a person in the first place?

Hmmmm, it's part experience and part human nature. Unless and until you actually meet that person, you have no idea how many others (girls or guys) they maybe dangling on a hook.
I have lots of online friends whom I've known for years but as far as the dating/romantic part of it, it's only words on my monitor until I lay eyes on the guy and get to know him face to face. |

I see your point.
But what about the actual etiquette? - surely there must be ways people are approached and specific behaviour, even though as you say "far as the dating/romantic part of it, it's only words on my monitor until I lay eyes on the guy and get to know him face to face."
I mean you must go for a certain type and would be "put-off" with inappropriate behaviour?
I've heard very good stories before of online dating. |

Friend of mine is having great success at online dating, she met him online, organised the date and now they are having a ball!
Though she is still a little awkward about how she met this guy, something about people thinking her to be "desperate".
Anyone? |

on the ocassion that I do tell when I've met someone online, I am often met with "how could you do that?", " he could be a wierdo". There is still some stigma to meeting people online.
But I think you take the same chances when you meet somene under "normal" circumstances. Hence I think perhaps there should be some etiquette to online dating so both parties can feel at ease and actually enjoy the date. |

Good points there, indeed there is "stigma" which is pretty much just ignorance and a lack of understanding. When we meet dates ofline we are typically introduced through a friend.
Online, the "friend", is the internet, the online dating service is the friend that introduces. One way to look at it ... |
