We have been conditioned to believe a diet means denial. We but back so severely to lose the weight we are practically living on air. A diet has come to represent what we can't have. A diet is a way of life. You can eat a balanced diet or a poor diet/ A balanced diet includes a vatiety of food choices. There are some keys to attaining a nutritionally beneficial diet that will allow you to first lose the excess weight and then to maintain your ideal.
1. Portion control is key. Use a calorie counter as a guideline. A food scale and measuring cups are very helpful. In a short time you will learn to eyeball the portion that is right for you.
2. Smaller meals more frequently through the day. Instead of 3 large meals that will just sit in your stomach like a rock, try 5 or 6 smaller meals at set intervals.
3. Don't skip meals. That causes the body to go into overdrive and you would be surprised as to how easy it is for the body to go into famine mode.
4. Don't eat after 7PM. By that time of day your body is slowing down in preparation for rest. Most of what you will consume after that time will be stored as fat.
5. Variety, variety, variety! Try a fruit or vegetable you haven't tried before. Don't crash diet. First it's boring and second it's a negative to your goal. You'll soon go nuts on the all grapefruit and vinegar diet and hello Oreos!
6. Buy fresh or frozen. These foods have been processed the least, contain no preservatives, and retain the most nutritional value. Don't eat anything sitting in a can for 6 months.
Start slow, it takes time to retrain your tastebuds and your body to accept the changes. Add something good each day and lose something that isn't benefitting you at the same time. |
