Calling Breast Cancer Survivors to Train for the CBCF CIBC Run for the Cure

Tuesday, July 12 @ 10:59:21 EDT
You've outwitted, outplayed, and outlived the ruthless adversary of breast cancer.

You want to celebrate your victory, embrace life, and make a difference. So now it's time to become a member of the exclusive run team SURVIVORS: Vancouver - yes it's reality, but not a TV show.

Running Room Canada and New Balance Canada are proud to announce the 2005 Survivor Clinic, an 8-week "For Women Only" Learn to Run clinic structured entirely around women's needs. It will give participants a chance to network with other women who have faced similar challenges with their health, and uses running, walking, stretching and health education to provide the tools for long-lasting fitness. It is ideal for women who want to set and attain new fitness goals such as running (or walking) in a 5km event.

"This is as amazing clinic, and we are proud to offer it free of charge for women who have endured and overcome breast cancer," says Joyce Louie, Manager of the Denman Running Room store. "Participants receive personalized programs, group support, membership with the Running Room Run Club, a free New Balance technical T-shirt, on-line clinic training program access, training logs, manuals, tech support and help pages, a training manual, and practice days!"

Tricia Dong, instructor for the Vancouver Survivor Clinic 2005, is thankful for the opportunity to work with the Survivors. "I'm honoured to be teaching this clinic for the fourth year," she said. "Although the participants look to me for run guidance and instruction, I feel that I'm the pupil - they've taught me so much about strength of character, determination, and the will to survive. It's an experience I always cherish and look forward to year after year."

The Running Room's Survivor clinic helps prepare breast cancer survivor participants for the CBCF CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday October 2, 2005. Participants must be breast cancer survivors, be willing to speak to or appear in the media, and complete the 8-week program with minimum absences. The clinic fills up quickly, so don't delay getting registered!
